WHY DOUBLE CLEANSING IS IMPORTANT

And why you should do it!

I used to go to town on my face with 5 makeup wipes and then cleansed by face - and even then with all those wipes and cleansing, my skin still felt I had make up on (Shout out to MAC foundations and their staying power). The next morning I would still feel like my skin had a layer on it, and what would you know, here comes the congestion and the acne that followed after!
It was only until I started studying beauty therapy that I discovered that I was a fool for not knowing about the magic that is double cleansing.
WHAT IS IT?
Double cleansing is a step that involved the use of a cleansing oil, micellar water to break down make-up, spf and other dirt and other free radicals that your skin may have picked up during the day.
This is then secondly followed by a deeper cleanse with your favourite cleanser that is suited to your skin type.
This second round of cleansing gives the the skin a much deeper clean and will remove any impurities that have may gotten into the pores. Following with an exfoliaton to the face (I personally exfoliate every 2 - 3 days), already leaves the skin feeling fresh.
This will allow any following skin care (serums and moisturisers) really treat and penetrate the skin and work their magic over night. The thought of adding another step to my night time routine was tedious, I'm not going to lie. But since I had introduced it to my skin and how much it dramatically changed my skin and how it felt.
I always double cleanse at night, regardless of if I'm wearing make up or not. The natural sebum on your skin can build up as well which can cause a blockage of the pores, pores may get infected and you get = acne. But we will leave that for another blog post.
The link below from Elle.com has amazing examples of what types of balms, oils and micellar waters that you can use based on your skin type. Or you can be like me and just use your cleanser twice.
Until the next post.
Stay beautiful
